Embarking on a new kitchen project is an exciting journey, but it can also feel like a big commitment. At Elements Kitchens in Reading, we’ve spent decades refining a process that balances creativity with precision, ensuring every client feels confident from the very first conversation through to the final sign-off.
While no two projects are exactly alike, the journey usually follows a clear pathway to a successful outcome. Here’s what you can expect when working with us.
1. Getting in Touch
It all begins with a simple contact. Whether you call, email, or visit our Reading showroom, the first step is to book a design consultation. If you already have architects’ plans, sending them to us in advance is invaluable as it allows us to prepare scaled drawings and note important details such as ceiling heights or window positions.
Many clients also like to share inspiration images, which gives us a glimpse into their style preferences right from the start.
2. The Initial Consultation
Your consultation, which typically lasts between one to two hours, is where the real groundwork happens. Most clients prefer to meet in our kitchen showroom, surrounded by displays and materials, but if you don’t yet have detailed plans, we can also visit your home. This is our opportunity to understand your needs, wishes, and equally importantly, the things you don’t want.
We’ll discuss timescales, whether you’re working toward an extension for your home, have a specific installation date in mind, or need to finalise a design quickly. Style preferences, colour palettes, and the overall functionality of the space all come into play, as does budget. From the broad strokes of layout and room usability to the finer points of doors, worktops, handles, and finishes, this conversation helps us create a design that feels perfectly tailored to you.
3. The Design Presentation
Once your designer has worked their magic, you’ll be invited back to the showroom for a presentation. Over the course of an hour or two, we’ll unveil your proposed design using lifelike 3D visuals on a large screen, accompanied by physical samples of relevant finishes.
Alongside the design, you’ll receive at least one itemised quotation, giving you a clear sense of how different specifications and options affect the overall cost. We’ll also review an optional extras list, highlighting popular upgrades and add-ons. This is a collaborative session and your feedback is essential, as minor tweaks can often be made there and then.
4. Fine-Tuning the Details
Design is rarely a “one and done” process. Following your feedback, we’ll refine the design and update 3Ds, samples, and costs as needed. This stage ensures everything feels just right before we move into the formal agreement.
5. Finalising the Design
When you’re ready, we’ll meet again in the showroom to finalise every detail. Over the course of around two hours, we’ll review and sign off plans, elevations, specifications, and installation requirements.
At this stage, a 25% deposit secures your project, and the dream kitchen starts to become a reality.
6. The Site Survey
Your dedicated Project Manager (PM) will then carry out a detailed site survey. This step is especially important if the design has so far been based on architects’ plans, as things can shift during a build. The PM takes precise measurements, double-checks requirements, and then places orders for your kitchen components.
This is also when installation dates are booked, providing a clear timeline for what comes next.
7. Pre-Start Management
Behind the scenes, our team ensures everything is on track. The PM monitors supplier progress and confirms that all items arrive into our warehouse in good time. Our workshop team conducts strict quality control checks, assembling cabinetry with doors, lighting, and fittings so that everything is ready for a smooth installation.
8. Preparing the Site
Before your new kitchen can be fitted, the old one needs to make way. Depending on your requirements, this preparation may be carried out by your own contractors or our in-house team. It can include removal of the existing kitchen, plumbing, electrics, plastering, flooring, and even building work, ultimately whatever is required to get the space ready.
9. Delivery & Installation
Installation day marks the beginning of the transformation. Our workshop team delivers everything to site, and the fitter carefully checks all items. Your PM will be there on day one to set everything in motion. Precision is key at this stage, the fitter marks out the room and double-checks all measurements before cabinetry and panels are fixed in place.
Your PM will visit again during the process to oversee progress and resolve any snags. If stone or quartz worktops are included, they’ll be templated once cabinetry is fitted, with installation usually taking place 5–10 working days later.
Final appliance connections, plumbing, and finishing touches follow, ensuring everything is ready for use.
10. Final Sign-Off
The final step is often the most rewarding. Your designer returns for a last visit to check that everything meets both our standards and yours. They’ll also take professional photographs and guide you through the use of your new appliances, ensuring you feel completely at home in your kitchen.
